Student Welfare

Supervision

Teachers begin official supervision of the grounds at 8:45 am. Any child arriving at school before 8:45 am should attend the Before School Hours Care Program.

School Crossings

Crossing supervisors appointed by the Banyule Council ensure the safety of children using the Darebin and Cape Street crossings before and after school. Please assist them by parking only in the designated areas and avoid the possibility of prosecution by leaving the 'no parking' areas free and do not double park. We ask for your complete co-operation in the interest of all children.

Discipline and Welfare

The school has a comprehensive Discipline and Welfare Policy which is available on request. Please support the school and staff as we strive to keep Heidelberg Primary School a safe and happy place for all students and teachers.
A number of senior students are trained as Peer Mediators who can be approached during lunchtimes to help settle playground disputes through negotiation.

"Buddy" System

The students from the junior classes are matched with a buddy from the senior classes to give them an older friend in the school grounds who can help them in times of need. Cross age tutoring is also used at times to support children's learning.
