Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. Heidelberg Primary School has a long and proud tradition of over 160 years of providing an excellent education for the children in the Heidelberg area. We are a medium sized primary school in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne with a school population of approximately 425 students, divided into 17 classes from Foundation to Grade 6. The school’s excellent reputation stems from our emphasis on tailoring the teaching and learning to individual students. This is supported by a professional, innovative and caring staff.
Teachers strive to develop each child’s potential and seek to inspire students, teach thinking skills and progressively develop their ability to take on responsibility and leadership roles. Heidelberg Primary School prides itself on having a strong set of core values: Integrity, Care, Cooperation and Respect and these underpin the work of the school. There is a strong focus placed on the development of Literacy and Numeracy skills which is supported by extension and intervention programs. Specialist classes in Science, Art and Music, Physical Education, Japanese and ICT enrich the curriculum. ICT plays a major role in all our programs and is enhanced with our 1:1 iPad Program for all students in Years 3-6.
There are many extra-curricular activities offered such as a F-6 camping program, choir, clubs and instrumental music. We have a full calendar of community events that provide opportunities for our students to engage with our broader community. These include such things as twilight sports night, Christmas Carols, School Dance, Fete and Concert.
The school is situated in extensive grounds and is very well resourced. Our facilities include carpeted, air-conditioned teaching spaces, a library, multi-purpose room, specialist Art and Science rooms, and a purpose built School Age Care building. The school has completed major grounds works including the installation of tiger turf and plexi-pave courts and a large community courtyard. These complement the new and modern facilities which incorporate nine new classrooms, ICT facilities and an open learning space.
At Heidelberg Primary School we have a strong commitment to creating a school community that embodies our motto ‘We Care What We Do’. We believe that maintaining strong synergy between school, parent and student is essential in helping every child reach their full potential. We aim to foster a friendly, caring, community spirit across the school and for our students and their families to get to know each other. We receive strong support from our community and we welcome parental involvement in the operation of our school. There are a broad range of opportunities for this to occur including: social activities, School Council and sub-committees, parent helpers in the classroom and in various programs.
